My goal in redesigning OOLA’s website was threefold. Improve their site architecture, give them a new aesthetic that is approachable yet conveys the quality of their products, and make their distillery tastings and events easier to find.

The Process
Mood Board
This mood board is full of vibrant photos focused on the ideas of community, friendship, connection, and fun. OOLA’s product is very visually appealing and I wanted that to carry over to their site. OOLA has a beautiful event space where they host tastings, private events, and tours. I included images of people in my mood board to bring that sense of community to the website.
Style Board
My visual direction for OOLA marries the upscale nature of OOLA’s product with their approachability and sense of fun. I chose fully-saturated images that highlights their beautiful product photography which was missing in their site. My color palette keeps OOLA’s bright red, adding a deep yellow reminiscent of the color of whiskey. The handwritten typeface (which mimics OOLA’s hand-signed bottles) paired with a stylish serif font further emphasizes OOLA’s dual nature of fun and quality.
Proto-Personas
Thinking about OOLA’s target demographic, I came up with three proto-personas, each with their own needs and goals. These personas informed my site’s information architecture, highlighting new releases, events, and OOLA’s artisan, boutique product.
Wireframes
Keeping the needs of my personas in mind, I came up with three potential layouts for the homepage. I decided to use a modular design based on the stacked version of OOLA’s logo that would easily translate to mobile. In the end, I combined elements of all of my wireframes to create a unique, modern layout.
The Solution
Final Designs
My design includes two typefaces, one serif to use for main headlines and subheaders, plus a more decorative script that mimics the handwritten signatures that appear on OOLA bottles. I featured OOLA’s professional, highly-saturated photography to show off the products, something they aren’t doing enough of on their current site. The long scrolling homepage reaches all three of my personas with event information, a featured recipe, and a new release highlight.
